What is My Skin Type?

What is my skin type

Stop, before you purchase another skin product, do you know your skin type?

Today we wanted to share with all our dolls the different skin type which are generally categorised into five types to make choosing the right product for you easier.

Having a good understanding of your skin type is something we wish they taught us at school. Knowing your skin type is as important as knowing what colour compliments your features. It’s vital to purchasing the right product that will heal and care for your skin type. No longer wasting money on products that don’t work and more money for that cute pair of heels we saw on The iconic website last night.

No, not all skin care products are created equal and therefore using the wrong skin care product can either have non-existent results or worse have an adverse reaction for your skin type.

So, here is the 5 types of skin types;

1.Normal Skin

This is the term that we widely use to describe skin that is well balanced. People with normal skin rarely experience oiliness or dryness as the skin is balanced. Although some skin concerns may arise, they are generally quick and easy to treat. We recommend using products that help maintain skin health and protect against external environmental factors. Tell-tale signs of normal skin are as follows;

  • small pores
  • few lines & wrinkles
  • even skin tone
  • hardly any blemishes
  • lack excess shine

2.Dry Skin

This is the term we use to describe skin that is dry, and that produces less oil or sebum than most normal skin type. This skin type finds it difficult to retain moisture and very often, the deeper layers of the skin moisture depleted. Skin is often vulnerable to environmental factors as it cannot build an effective shield to protect it. We recommend using deeply nourishing products that both moisturise and prevent water loss. The tell-tale of dry skin are as follows;

  • Skin appears tight
  • Rough & Flaky
  • Feel itchy & Irritated
  • More likely to experience wrinkles.

3.Oily Skin

This is the term we use to describe skin that overproduces oil or sebum. People with oily skin require products that balance oil production and prevent breakouts which can be hard to treat. Acne on oily skin often looks red, shiny, blemished and inflamed. We recommend using products that are specifically aimed at balancing the overproduction of oil. The tell-tale of oily skin are as follows;

  • Large pores
  • Visible blackheads and whiteheads
  • Prone to hard to treat breakouts.
  • Skin that appears shiny

4.Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is the term we use to describe skin that is more sensitive to products and environmental conditions than those with other skin types. People with sensitive skin generally respond better to skincare products that are formulated from natural ingredients as cosmeceuticals can use harsh ingredients. We recommend products that are gentle, calming and protective.The tell-tale of oily skin are as follows;

  • Inflammation & redness
  • Stings & or Burns
  • Rashes & bumps
  • Itchy skin
  • Acne

5. Combination Skin

Combination skin is the term we use to describe skin that features more than one skin type. Its not uncommon that people with combination skin can experience different skin challenges in their T-zone than they do on their cheeks and around their eyes. We recommend using products that balance the oil and bring the skin into Harmony. The tell-tale of combination skin are as follows;

  • T-zone is oily while cheeks are dry
  • Skin is oilier in summer and dry in winter
  • Other skin issues, like wrinkles, breakouts, or rosacea on your face at the same time

When products are designed, a lot of research and formulation goes into choosing the ingredients. Certain ingredients work better for certain skin types over others and as we always say, read the ingredients and know what you are feeding your skin.

All the Shhh Glamour!
